In today’s world, almost everyone has access to social media. There are various types of social media platforms, including Facebook, Instagram, X (formerly known as Twitter), TikTok, and WhatsApp, to name a few. Each platform operates differently, and people often have their own preferences when it comes to using them. While some individuals create contents and earn money, others use these platforms purely for entertainment. To gain insight into these preferences, we took a walk around the campus to gather opinions from students about their favorite social media platforms and how they engage with them.
QUESTION
If You Could Only Use One Social Media Platform for the Rest of Your Life, Which One Would It Be? And Why?
Answers:
“That will definitely be X(Twitter). And the reason is simply because I can get every piece of information I need from the app. From staying up-to-date on world news, to catching the latest sports highlights, to socializing with friends, or even engaging in some light-hearted banter, the app has got me covered”- Ifeanyichukwu, student.
“I prefer Facebook because it offers me the chance to delve into detailed posts from individuals and pages I follow. As someone who appreciates reading and gaining insights from written content, Facebook gives me a distinctive platform to explore a diverse array of articles, perspectives, and narratives. In contrast to other social media platforms that prioritize short-form content, Facebook allows users to share comprehensive posts that foster meaningful discussions and connections. This aspect is incredibly valuable to me, and it’s the main reason I remain active on the platform” – Kenechukwu, student.
“The social media platform I prefer most is TikTok and the reason I prefer it is because it contains highly engaging short-form video contents that appeals to its audience. It encourages creativity and has a powerful algorithm for content discovery. Also, it is a great platform for brands looking to engage through visual content”- Ogechukwu, content creator.
“You know, the various social media platforms have different roles. I prefer Facebook because it allows me to share my stories or articles with my pictures. Unlike other social media platforms, one can share stories with thousands of words on Facebook. Also, one can join groups of like-minded individuals on Facebook” -Philip, blogger.
“As someone who enjoys celebrity gist and lifestyle,I prefer Instagram because it is my go-to source for celebrity news and updates. I love that many celebrities personally post on the platform, giving me a glimpse into their lives. While Twitter (or X) is another option, I have chosen to avoid it due to its toxic environment. For me, Instagram is the perfect choice. It is a more positive space where I can stay connected with my favourite celebrities”- Ngozi, entrepreneur.
